Hey there Steemians!
It's been five months since i joined Steemit, and although it's a bit late, here is my #introduceyourself post.
My name is Tawasi, my parents gave me this name, it means Flower Of The Sun in the Hopi language.
I was raised in Texas on a Hippie Community which taught nonviolence, sustainable living, and the importance of pursuing knowledge.
Early on in my adulthood my daughter was born, she is my pride and joy, I love her more than anything!
My family on my mom's side comes from a long line of jewelers, both my sister and brother make jewelry, as does my daughter, and baby's mama.
On my father's side, I come from the Nooksack Tribe, my grandfather Roy George was the last chief of the Nooksack tribe, through his efforts the tribe was able to gain federal recognition, and gain access to food commodities through S.T.O.W.W. an organization my grandfather helped to create.
My life took a dramatic turn in 2016 when I was in North Dakota in Sacred Stone Camp, a Water Protectors prayer camp set up to protect the Oglala aquifer from the Dakota Access Pipe Line, on the 26th of December 2016 I was illegally detained (in my opinion) while on a prayer walk, when I was in jail the arrest video I made went viral, in a small way, and resulted in thousands of people joining my Facebook page, in the time since then I have been figuring out how to cope with Facebook Famous status, I have been creating livestreams to educate on the Water Protectors movement, MEMES, and blogs talking about the importance of protecting the water for future generations.
I have been a life long activist, and my activism at Sacred Stone Camp is what brought me to Steemit, because my friend @amyf kept encouraging me to join, she was a persistent advocate for this website and I am very grateful for her encouragement.
Sorry it took me so long to make an introduce yourself post, I hope to be here for the long haul, and intend to POWER UP most of the SBD which comes along with blogging here.
Thanks for taking the time to read this far!
My most recent blog was about how to celebrate when I reach the 1,000 followers mark, most of my blogs are about social inequity and the need to address fascism in the usa.
