Sublime and Beautiful Sunday

I was goign to share some spring shots today, but on a walk the other day I came across a cool art piece that I wanted to share, I feel it is both beautiful and sublime so fitting for todays post and tags

"The Water We're Swimming In, is by by Elaine Alder.
Located at the New Bedford Whaling Museum's Captain Paul Cuffe Park, New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park artist-in-resident Elaine Alder teamed up with NOAA Marine Debris to create these steel sculptures woven with recycled fishing line, plastic rope, and tires.
The sculptures, made from recycled marine debris, symbolize actual endangered North Atlantic Right Whales who currently swim through an ocean filled with plastic and marine debris.
The project is the 11th NOAA Marine Debris Sculpture featured at National Parks nationwide. This weekend, the project was officially opened with a ceremony and blessing from community members and Pocasset Wampanoag members of the Pokanoket Nation and Métis Nation.
"The Water We're Swimming In" will be displayed through September 2027.

Thank you for sharing! So glad you enjoyed it! Making it was a collaboration with so many people, from cleaning the beach, to community weaving events to weave the colorful flukes and flipper. Their names aren’t marked on site, but each whale has markings specific to real, living North Atlantic right whales. Clockwise from the tail, their names are Crest, Batman, Butterfly, and Ruffian. Some of their stories are available online if you look them up on NOAA’s website.
I did a quick look just now and couldnt find the info about them but will search again after sharing this

the creativity of the artist to come up with this idea blows me away, so talented and I love this art piece.
The boards to the side show lots of information about the ocean and such I did read them all but didnt think to take photos of them at the time

Isnt it just so cool, well maybe not everyones taste as they say beauty is inthe eye of the beholder
