Fort Rodman

Good Morning I hope life is treating you well

For today I will share a few shots taken of Fort Rodman , it is in a park here called Fort Taber Park on maps and the signs but to some of the ones who know the shitory of the area they call it Fort Rodman Park
Apparently On historical records it is recorded as Fort Rodman, but the city named it Fort Taber park after an earth work fort that was there at some stage.

But as I am just sharing photos of the fort today on various visits to the park I can safely call it fort Rodman

Starting with a shot from a point I only went to on a recent visit tot he park, near the fort there are some gun emplacements grown over and I realised that day I could get up on top of them for this view of the fort

Also known as the Old Stone Fort, Fort Rodman (known as "Fort at Clark's Point" until 1898) began construction in 1857 under the third system of US fortifications, and in 1862 construction became overseen by Henry Robert, author of Robert's Rules of Order and an Army Corps of Engineers officer. The fort, as built, had emplacements for 72 cannon in three tiers; a fourth tier was originally planned, but this was removed from the design to allow more timely completion. Construction was halted in 1871, and the fort as planned was never completed.

The fort is closed off and not safe and hence never opened to the public, I would love to see it restored but I have not heard of any plans to do that

Often on visits here I will walk around the fort both for exercise and to get shots from different angles

One day I noticed when looking at this door the round hole in it

So I went closer and took a peek and a photo through the hole, the closest I will ever get to going inside the fort

and on top of the fort this old lighthouse no longer in operation of course
