Fort Rodman

I shared the other day some shots in Fort Tabor park here in New Bedford including a shot looking into Fort Rodman, that day I also took some new shots of the Fort itself and thought I would share them today

Now there is a lot of Confusion over the name of this park it seems, the Fort Itself is Fort Rodman but the Park is called Fort Tabor after a smaller temporary fort that had been there

Also known as the Old Stone Fort, Fort Rodman (known as "Fort at Clark's Point" until 1898) began construction in 1857 under the third system of US fortifications, and in 1862 construction became overseen by Henry Robert, author of Robert's Rules of Order and an Army Corps of Engineers officer. The fort, as built, had emplacements for 72 cannon in three tiers; a fourth tier was originally planned, but this was removed from the design to allow more timely completion. Construction was halted in 1871, and the fort as planned was never completed.

The fort is awaiting restoration and is not open to the public which I hope does come to be soon I would love to see inside it .

A shame it has not been restored its a grand well not grand as in huge but a cool fort with so much style

This park is very popular with walkers, not so much in the very early morning when I mostly go there, but after the sun comes up I often see people walking around the fort and the park
