So something magical happened to me on Saturday, June 27th, 1998 when I was merely a fifteen year old teenage girl; I fell in love at first sight with a complete stranger. It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon, I was attending a school fair with my church's youth group. I was minding my own business when I felt someone gently touch my hand, I looked up and to my pleasant surprise he was the most handsome boy I'd ever seen in my life. My heart started pounding as he pulled me close to him and gently pressed his soft lips against mine. I was making out with a stranger, at this point we hadn't even knew each other's name but, I knew I was in love. I had butterflies in every region of my body. This escapade lasted for about an hour, the best hour of my life. It was time for me to leave as my peers were ready. He and I had enough time to exchange names and schools we attended; our schools were located across the street from each other. We made plans to meet each other after school on Monday afternoon.
He became my first boyfriend and my first love. The relationship lasted for about a month, it was beautiful and excited but, he was three years my senior and wanted more than just kisses. I, on the other hand, wanted to focus on my studies and complete high school. I took our break-up really hard even though we still saw each other on and off for the next six years before I migrated to the United States.
We were both young and inexperienced and didn't understood each other as individuals. I thought I was too good for him. On the other hand, he felt he was too macho to ask me to be his girlfriend so we played games with each other. Deep down inside, I was always hoping that he would ask me to be his girlfriend again. Even though I had other relationships after ours, I never felt that connection again with anyone. That connection where you have butterflies and your heart skip beats and you're like a kid in a candy store when you're around that person. It just never happened again, ever. I knew from back then that he was my true love.
He would eventually tell me his feelings the day before I was preparing to migrate. There was nothing I could have done at that point. I wanted to kill him, figuratively. He tried to kiss me and I rejected him, something I later regretted but, we were doing what we did best - playing games with each other.
So I migrated and started a new life which included getting married. Of course, my first love was always in my head, often wondered what had became of him. I always felt empty where love is concerned - just never felt fulfilled. My marriage fell apart after which I contact him in hopes of reconnecting our love. Our love was never lost, I still had all those feelings like I did the first night we met. We finally talked to each other as adults.
I believe that we had to be separated to live life - make mistakes, find ourselves so that we could be right for each. He is all I ever wanted. Now that we are back together, we've had our share of ups and downs over the years given the fact that we have a long distance relationship; he's in South America and I'm in the United States. He has been patient and understanding with me as I transitioned out of my marriage. I don't know what life has in store for me but, I know that there's no one else I'd want to spend my life with, no one has ever made me this happy and filled my heart with joy. I can't wait to begin forever with him. I can't wait to see him in two weeks!
P.s. He asked me to marry him yesterday.
