This is the time of year when people are looking back at the goals they set for 2022. At the same time, we see many, especially on Hive, posting their goals for the next 12 months.
It is a practice that I do not partake in. To me, this is not something that makes a lot of sense, especially considering how people approach it.
At the core of this is a goal must be something within one's control. Thus, when we set something, it has to be quantifiable along with being based upon what we do.
For example, the idea of losing 50 pounds in a year is a goal that we commonly see. However, it is also pretty useless. Yes it is a worthwhile aspiration but what does it mean? Is it really within our control?
Under this situation, we should instead opt to hit up the gym 5 days a week, for 60 minutes each time. We will divide our time 50/50 with cardio and weight training. In addition to this we can set nutrition and eating goals that are in line with this.
Whether we lose the 50 pounds or not is impossible to tell. Perhaps we do this and "only" lose 40. Here we can see where the disconnect comes from.
Hive/Leofinance Goals
This is a situation that I see on Hive.
People are setting goals based upon how much $HIVE or LEO they can power up. On this point, I applaud the intention. Nevertheless, when it comes to a goal, it is an abysmal failure.
Unless one is intending on buying either LEO or $HIVE, this is out of the hands of any individuals. Much of the time our accumulation depends upon the votes of others. As we know, they can be given or they might not show up.
If people set goals based upon activity, then I could see it.
For example, how about the goal to post every single day for 2023. This is a goal that is quantifiable, i.e. we know if we accomplished it. At the same time, it is fully within our control. We are the ones who decide whether we post or not.
Here is another one: to post 10 comments per day.
Again, we have a quantfiable goal that is based within our capability. Whether any of this content gets upvote is not dependent upon us. Hence, to me, if one has goals based upon the actions of others, that is not really a worthy focus.
We have to concentrate on what we can control, not others.
Obviously, HP and LP are results. We can see our wallets growing. Nevertheless, that cannot be the focus since we have no idea when votes will come. The only thing we can do is take the action.
Routine For Success
Personally, I have a routine that is geared to my success on Hive. My posting is patterned throughout the day. Each day I tend to it, mostly without fail. This is my commitment to myself.
Because of this I am not focused upon HP or LP. Any rewards I get are powered up so it is not as if I do not partake. The point here is my focus is upon my activity.
This makes it crystal clear when things come up. An example is my upcoming trip for the holiday weekend. I am not sure what my schedule will be so, I adapted my video recording this week. All videos for the next few days are completed, ready to be posted. Since I knew I might be affected, I didn't leave it to change.
Here is where we can see routine enter. There is no decision. Anything possibly affecting my ability to meet my commitment is addressed. This is fully within my sphere of influence.
Do not get me wrong: I love to see people focusing upon growing their holdings on Hive. To me, this is the best use of one's time long term. Hive is going to serve a lot of people very well in my opinion.
The bottom line is when people try to focus upon growing their accounts, that is where their energy heads. When it comes to content creation, this is disruptive. For me, I do not write with rewards in mind. Instead, I focus upon set, length, and quality of content being provided.
With that, the rest falls in line.
This is from my days in sales.
The most successful sales people never set sales goals. Instead, they focused upon the activity that led up to them. This includes the number of calls made, presentations done, and time spend researching accounts.
Sales are a product of action. Taking all the right action does not guarantee a sale. Here is where the focus on the latter is detrimental.
What does result in long-term success there is the daily action. Based upon this, the top people in my company were always concentrating on their daily activities. In the end, the results seem to take care of themselves.
I approach Hive the same way. The growth of my wallet is the result. For me, the action taken is more important since that is what leads to the growth over time.
