This article is really going to show my age but here goes.
In the 1980s, Wendy's ran some advertisements that got a lot of attention. This was long before Facebook Ads and Adsense.
Here is a sampling of a few of them.
Many want to turn cryptocurrency into a sprint when it is a marathon. It is akin to the old tortoise versus the hare. We all know the moral of the story.
Slow, steady, and consistent wins in the end.
Today, we see a bunch of cryptocurrencies up, some rather big. This has changed the outlook of many, at least temporarily, believing that brighter times are ahead. Personally, I feel that the market tells us little at this time. It is manipulated due to the fact it is, overall, very small. As I stated in the past, if Wall Street can manipulate the silver and gold markets, both which are significantly higher than cryptocurrency, they can literally control this like a puppet on a string.
The one thing they cannot manipulate is development. So while the old lady in the 1980s asked, "Where's the beef", we simple need to ask this"
"Where's the development?"
In my 2.5 years on this blockchain, I learned one major lesson: Steem is the tortoise. It is not flashy. There is not a lot of hype surrounding it.
Instead, it is a platform full of people who are putting their noses to the grindstone everyday, pushing things forward inch-by-inch. While there are a lot flashier platforms, the question about development comes into play. What is being developed on there? What are they going to be offerings a year or two from now?
Think about it for a second: if very little development is taking place right now, what is going to be on that blockchain down the road? Are people waiting for something magical to show up and change?
Steem has no arrogance like the tortoise. It is the underdog, the one laughed at by others (especially Bitcoin maximialists). Either way, none of that matters.
This is about development. We are dealing with software. Thus far, this stuff does not magically write itself.
Some have blown up at me because I tend to de-emphasize the marketcap of cryptocurrency. To many, this is the epitome of what determines how good something is. Sorry, but I disagree completely.
Look at Cardano. It is sitting pretty at number 11 on the rankings. Tell me, what is on there? It doesn't matter since it is in testnet. Do they have a promising future? I do believe so but make no mistake, at this moment, very little is taking place because they are in development at the base layer.
In the end, the platforms that have the most development will end up winning. For two years, I have stated that Steem is a top 10 blockchain based upon the infrastructure and what is being developed. While the market does not reflect it, the development does.
Just this week, we saw NFTs added to the ecosystem. This means that ERC-721 is not the only game in town. Steem can compete on that level while also providing 3 second transactions and fee-less activity.
Ultimately, Steem will rise in the rankings, not because of marketing or hype, but, rather, because of its merits.
