Leo Power is the same as Hive Power. It gives you stake over the reward pool. Hence, the more LP you have, the greater your upvote is worth.

That is how we allocate the reward pool, based upon upvotes tied to the voting power each upvote has.

You will want to increase your LP so that you can increase your curation rewards. Do not forget, you get 50% of your upvote paid to yourself in curation rewards. So if the vote is worth .1 LEO, you get .05 each time you upvote.
