Personally governments banning bitcoin seems like the biggest threat to bitcoin in my view. Perhaps they can't technically kill it but they could enact laws that make it very penal for people to use it or invest in it.
This nails it. They cant eliminate it but they still do have the guns and jails.
My views on all of this is that it is a race. We need to keep growing at a pace faster than the governments can get their act together. If there are hundreds of millions of people involved in Bitcoin, then it will be tough for them to outlaw.
We need to keep pushing everything forward and make all grow. They can obliterate a $450 billion market cap industry; it is more difficult to do that if it is $5 0r $6 trillion.
