Actually, this is a misnomer. The Fed's independence has been reduced. They are a political organization now.

Who is heading the Fed? How did that person get there? Politicians. Where do Fed mandates come from? Politicians. Who told them they have to buy government debt, no matter what? Politicians.

Bankers are crooks, not doubt about it. But they are not funning the show, politicians are.
