There is a great project that I just came across that I believe is beneficial to the Steem ecosystem.
Most of us are aware that the growth of Steem is dependent upon the smallest of accounts getting active and growing. New "blood" is always required for any ecosystem to flourish. Over time, we are seeing the token distribution spread out and it is the newer people who are helping to do that.
As I track the number of accounts each week at the lower levels, we are seeing some steady growth. Others latched onto this idea by staging the 10K Minnow project where they are trying to get the number of Minnows passed the 10K mark. I believe there is somewhere around 650 more needed.
Now we see another project focusing on even smaller accounts. This team started a token (PLKN) to assist in the effort. They are rewarding smaller users with the token to incentivize them to get active on Steem. They use contests, giveaways, and, presumably, upvotes, to assist in this effort. The PKTN can be exchange for Steem which helps the accounts power up.
Overall, I find it a fascinating idea. We need things like this to stimulate growth. The team is focusing upon those Planktons that are active and want to succeed. They are also finding the people who are interested in helping the entire platform grow.
One of the ways they are doing this is by addressing the account creation along with Resource Credit issues. We all know that getting an account can be a slow process. They seek to speed this up a bit by having those who are reserving account use them for this purpose.
They are also looking at providing accounts with under 50 SP with 10 SP delegations. While this might not sound like much to many, having the Resource Credits necessary to interact is important. For an account just starting out, some SP is needed to be able to interact more than once every couple days.
This is a situation where smaller accounts are proving they can take action to improve what is happening on Steem. I applaud their efforts.
Yesterday, I delegated 1,000 SP to the token account to provide a bit of VP while the road map is being worked on. What really caught my attention is the planned roll-out of the new accounts with 10 SP. Once that comes about, I will seek to move the SP into the different accounts as needed.
This is something that I feel every Dolphin should consider. Even 100 SP could help 10 accounts become more active, thus helping to make the ecosystem stronger. 10K SP could have 1,000 accounts working their way towards the 50 SP (which is enough to interact).
Another exciting part of this is to have the accounts used on friends of people who are already participating. The best marketing is via word of mouth. Could the Planktons find 1,000 friends and family members who want to join Steem and get active? I think it is a reasonable number.
Of course, this creates a "circle of friends" who all can support each other. While their SP might not be that powerful to start, as a group they can help each other along. With some of the other applications on here, we could see the collective mass become more powerful in a short period of time.
I had the opportunity to chat with @mcfarhat with
@actifit. He is interested in providing some of the accounts they were able to reserve for this project. We will see how the details unfold but it is good to see support coming from different areas.
The final piece of the puzzle is they are using cryptocurrency to incentivize behavior. Having their own token allows them to reward different activities. This helps people learn about crypto and what can be done with it. Since it is a Steem-Engine token, it can be exchanged for other tokens, including STEEM. This, once again, proves how valuable having our own exchange is.
I think it a worthwhile goal to shoot for 1,000 accounts new accounts through this program. If those are people who are "referred", the likelihood of them remaining active and growing is much greater. Plus, having the support of others when one is starting out is very helpful.
More accounts gaining Steem Power is a good thing.
