There's a daily snapshot of everyone's balances, and that snapshot balance is used for your upvote status throughout the rest of the day. So if you buy DHEDGE today, it will "activate" tomorrow. (well it will activate on the next snapshot, and that may be the same day depending on when you buy, but an easy rule is to assume it activates tomorrow.)
