This is where I will be spending the next few nights -

In Hell.

That's right....

Hell.

It was funny when the receptionist gave me my room as she said, "it is easy to remember" before handing me the electronic door key. And then, she proceeded to tell me about the- decoration style which they call, forest fairytale or something like that -

I said it doesn't suit.

I have never understood why there are so many superstitions attached to numbers as after all, most people until recently couldn't even count. Why is Friday the 13th a thing? My daughter is born on the 13th, so she will have a few birthdays that fall on that day - is that something to fear?

Please note: I have had a few drinks.

Well, maybe a few more than a few. But this is a a sales kick-off event (which starts tomorrow) so it is expected that there will be a few too many consumed. I am not in sales directly, but I am in sales enablement, so.... close enough.

The devil doesn't care.

It's just details. And as they say, that is where the devil resides.

That saying means that something may seem simple, but it might be more difficult than it appears. Often, when we think that there is something easy to do or understand, we overlook the complexities involved and become more confident than we should be. It has some Dunning-Kruger aspect to it, where we overestimate our skills even though we don't know much at all.

I think that this is common when we come to judging others online these days, as based on very limited information, often taken out of context and with the the most uncharitable view, we feel we know what someone is like. We read an article in the news designed to engage our outrage and believe that our opinion is justified, that we know what we are talking about. We take the "details" that suit our opinion as gospel, without considering the agenda of who presents us the information.

They do it for clicks.

It is like letting a vacuum sales person into the home, asking them what is the best vacuum cleaner to buy and then, believing them when they say it just happens to be the one they are selling. The difference is, instead of them needing to knock on the door and get a foot in, they have a key and can enter whenever they want, selling whatever makes them the most money.

Agenda.

What is yours? What is mine? Do you ever think about why you recommend this, or warn away from that? Do you ever consider what you get out of your opinions? I think most do not, which is why they feel confident recommending and saying things like,

"If I were you..."

If you were me, you'd do exactly what I would do. That is the way it has to be... because if I am doing it and you were me, you would be doing exactly what I am doing. Like it or not. If you were me, you would make precisely the same mistakes that I would make.

It is funny to think of this perhaps, but this is the case. Not until we are truly in another's shoes, can we know what they are experiencing and no matter how "empathetic" you believe yourself to be, it is impossible to be in another's shoes. You might be able to wear similar shoes, but there are always differences.

You are me.

You are biased too. We all are. You might think that you are able to compartmentalize and consider objectively, but it is just not true - we are all looking through some kind of personal filter that shifts reality from what it actually is, to what we perceive it to be. Sure, some people are completely cuckoo in this respect and live in a complete fantasy world, but it is not an on or off - it is a spectrum.

We are all on the spectrum.

We might all be unique, but we are all on the many spectrums of aspects that are important to each of us, no matter if we are high or low, good or bad. We get the sense of ourselves from what we believe, but it doesn't matter if we are right or wrong, our senses can't tell the difference.

This is hell, isn't it? Feeling that we are right when we are wrong. Wrong when we are right. Living a life where we are constantly judging, but have no chance to know whether our judgement skills are accurate, or our belief system valid - they feel correct though and for the brain and heart, that is all that really matters.

The devil might be in the details - but we make do with the high level view.
