The mental model to consider is: If we were a business paying for content (and other efforts documented by posts), would we pay this much for this? If the answer is no, downvote it.
I think most people do not consider the value of something they would pay for at all. The internet model of "free" is changing though and perhaps with things like streaming service popularity, people will start thinking again about what they pay for.
Most people (back in the day) wouldn't grab random magazines on the rack. If they were interested in cars, they had their favorite publication, and probably the same for tech, home and garden, and porn too. They were sensitive to the content because they paid, whereas now most have forgotten what it is to have to pay for digital - so have to relearn, or continue to suffer the price of free.
