Partly because of the aligned incentives. The incentive is to maximise wealth, no matter the cost. This becomes even easier when being removed from the activity itself. And then there is the problem that it will continually increase the wealth gap, and the more it does so, the faster it will go. This is why the consolidation is speeding up.
