It is just that the olympics are coming up - they are the measure on the day too. An old world record like usain bolt's or something, doesn't mean he is the world's best today. He can't run those times anymore- So, while their performance is the best in the world at that time, that record is also not necessarily the record - it is just the one we have recorded. Who knows, perhaps there was some ancient Egyptian who was faster :D
