Pear-shaped sunshine

Just a few short weeks ago, this particular tree looked like the spectre of death, with the very tall branches extending into the heavens to claw at the feet of angels in an attempt to pull them down into the underworld.

It is decidedly prettier now and I have to say, this is not a bad view from our lounge room. I have never seen a pear tree in bloom before and it is fantastically pretty and I can imagine that a whole grove of them would be a sight to behold for sure.

These are shot on my phone and the first ones are through very old and dirty glass, but hopefully I will get out with a proper camera later. With the weather so good, we are heading across the road for an afternoon barbecue with the neighbors and will take my camera over there to see if I can capture some of the grilling action.

And from a little closer. The Huawei P30 pro camera is pretty good, and I like that it has a wide-angle lens included, though I don't use it that much. It has been handy when documenting the bathroom renovation progress, as the space is quite tight and getting the overview shots is difficult.

What I have liked about the garden so far is how quickly it has changed from a wasteland into an oasis of sorts. The last house with a garden I owed was in the tropics of Australia and while always growing very fast, it actually didn't change much from season to seas, other than looking slightly less green in the dry season.

It is different here as there is so much variation between the seasons with a temperature spread of around 60 degrees celsius between winter and summer, with that being split either side of zero. The amount of energy it takes to shift from no growth in the winter to the summer must be very large indeed.

I am looking forward to the tree bearing fruit, as I think @smallsteps will be very excited to be able to eat something from her own garden. I remember as a kid spending hours collecting and eating almonds from the trees we had in our yard, as well as the odd apricot and loquats, if the possums didn't get them first. While not quite growing up on a farm, it does still give some sense of where food comes from - other than the supermarket.

Okay, time for the barbecue and to take some time to enjoy the fantastic weather. It is very unpredictable here and as a result, it is best to take advantage while one can, make hay as the sun shines so to speak. Or pears, as the case may be.
