There are lots of various events in Finland during the summer that can be enjoyed for free. They are nothing overly special, but if the weather is good, they will attract a crowd just looking for something to do. Today's was a kind of park concert filled with stands for all kinds of associations and clubs, like scouts, cheerleading and pottery. We didn't look at any of those - as my wife only wanted to see a couple of the artists perform.
I have no idea who they were.
But my wife did, and she sang along with some old man who was a rocker in the 80s, followed by a woman who was a decent singer but unestablished as of yet, so she was singing predominantly covers. I don't mind listening to live music anytime, and since it was warm and sunny, it was fine.
Except for the woman just behind us who was singing incredibly loud, out of tune, and didn't know all the words, so was singing just the last half of the lines.
You get what you pay for.
The only (other) weird thing was that in the whole area, there was zero food stalls. Thousands of people around, nowhere to get a bite to eat or a drink. There was one place with coffee, but since I am the only coffee drinker, I didn't even stop.
Seems like an oversight to me.
But, before the concert started I went to a corner store and bought a couple things that they were able to eat and drink (gluten and lactose free - they didn't have much) and we enjoyed the first part of the concert. And then during the changeover, it was time to find a bathroom for Smallsteps, with the closest serviceable one that wasn't in a pub on a Sunday in a department store a five minute walk away. And then since they have a supermarket there, I bought some more snacks for us, fresh strawberries.
I am getting old.
We didn't have much time to spend together in the city, as my wife had set up a date for Puusti the Dog with her colleague's dachshund, which is a month younger. And while they were meant to be playing outside together, the sunny day quickly turned into a downpour (my weather app said it was still sunny) and they were forced to play inside. They didn't mind though and spent a couple hours running around play-fighting.
We had to keep an eye on them though, because you know....
Besides these interludes and a quick gym training session, I have spent the rest of the day and the evening once everyone went to bed, fitting handles and painting doors. Two doors are on the hinges and working now, with another two to go. The trouble with where I am working is that I can only paint two doors at a time, so it is a long, slow process having to wait for drying times for each side before and for two coats - three on one of the sides. However, tonight after putting Smallsteps to bed (we are reading LotR), I started painting the panelling in the basement stairwell. It will be the same colour as the doors, which will definitely make it a lot darker in there, but with light grey floor and half the walls white, it should be okay. At least, the paint chosen is not as dark as my wife wanted originally.
Now, to clean-up and shower before I get into bed.
