My wife and I are going to a farewell gig tonight. The last concert is tomorrow, but it sold out, so they scheduled another, which we got tickets for, and then that sold out. So they scheduled a third for last night too, which sold out. This is the 50th year for the Finnish band EPPU Normaali and they remain very popular. They are local to this city too, so there is added incentive for many to go and watch them close out their band careers.
The picture is not of them.
However, something weird happened yesterday in terms of organisation. They set up a booth at a shopping centre close to the stadium so that people could change their tickets for wristbands prior to the concerts, which would speed up gate admission. So, after my wife finished work yesterday we went (all ticketholders must be present) about an hour earlier than their scheduled closing time at five.
And the line was about 250 metres long.
However, it moved quickly but we were about 20 metres from the front when it turned to five, and one of the staff came down the line saying they were closing. The line was still about 150 metres long. That is insane, especially since we were meant to be doing the organisers a favour by getting tickets early. As you can imagine, there were some pretty incredulous people in the crowd. For once, I just tried to ignore the stupidity and we left. All up, this unnecessary trip cost us two hours of our life plus the cost of fuel and parking in order to get nothing.
But I won't let it ruin the gig for my wife.
We have seen them before together a handful of years ago, and while I do not understand the lyrics or know any of the song names, there are enough familiar tunes that I can appreciate the music. And, I the last time I saw them was a more intimate affair with a couple hundred people in a warehouse for a corporate event. This is a small stadium gig with tens of thousands and, they will pretty much (besides me) be fans. My wife's brother-in-law will be with us tonight, and he will be going with his family tomorrow night again.
We are in the K18+ section. Should be fun.
While I have to go now to the bus, it is a WTF night and if things work out, I will see if I can get some commentary to talk about from the gig itself, maybe even with some pictures. There tends to often be some noteworthy and weird sights to be found at these kinds of things, so let's see!
