I'm building a sex dungeon.
Downstairs in the basement, we have a couple very small rooms that we haven't really used for anything, and since I am getting ready to paint the floors, I am also cleaning them up to get them useable. And as you can see, the one I was working on today is pretty bloody grotty.
That is because it used to be an oil storage room that would feed the furnace room through what is a closed up window. That window doesn't look to the outside of the house, it looks into what is now a sauna. I have no idea how it was originally planned, but it doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Still, it is here and I will use it for something suitable now.
The previous owners (I assume) had a type of "cold box" in here, which was essentially a few pieces of wood lined with insulating foam. I ripped that disgusting thing out so the room was empty, and then started painting. And, while talking about paint, we went to buy the floor paint today (it is expensive) and choose a colour.
Winter is coming.
I am glad that whoever makes up the names for the paints has some sense of humour, but it was the one that was most suitable for us. My wife wanted dark grey, but I nixed that idea because it just closes the space in too much. I wanted a light grey, a bit like a garage floor, and we ended up going with something that was closer to that, but slightly darker than I wanted. It should look clean enough once it is on the floor though, and that is the point of this.
Oh, before starting on the sex den, I had to go around and paint the bottom edge of the walls a little past the floor, because when I originally did it I didn't care too much about the bottom edge, since we weren't doing anything to the floor at all. Now that the floor will be painted, it would look very dicky with a rough edge and doing it after the floor, means a lot of masking. Once all the floors are sealed with paint, we will be able to put down some mats in the winter and hopefully keep the space a fraction warmer, or at least more comfortable when we have to walk down there. Right now, it feels more like a construction site.
This of course will not actually be a sex den, because while I am up for it, my wife is not enthusiastic at all. Instead, it will be a storage room and once clean, we will pick up some cheap shelving to put against the wall and make it a space we can store the rarely needed. The other small room is about half the size of this one and has a sloping roof since it sits under the stairs, and that will be cleaned up similarly to remain my wine "cellar", which is a few random bottles of stuff I will likely not drink. Still, it is nice to have spaces more organised and functional, and I am looking forward to the basement being somewhere we don't mind going, rather than somewhere we toss stuff out of sight.
I would like to spend more time on this, but I am doing it in bits and pieces at the moment so that I can also be part of family activities. Tomorrow, we are probably going to go for a swim at a local pool centre, so I can do a couple hours of work in the morning, and then head for a hopefully relaxing swim in the afternoon. They have some saunas there too, so it would be nice to chill out in some heat on another rainy, cool day.
