It is a little bit of a disjointed weekend, as my wife went away yesterday for a bachelorette night for a friend, and Smallsteps and I have been spending the time together. But tomorrow, I am off to help friends move house for several hours. Not that it matters much, but it somehow doesn't feel like a weekend.
It was a very grey and overcast morning, so before the rain poured, I went out to trim and mow the lawn, because it might be wet for the next several days and if it went all that time, it would turn into a jungle. Do things when there is the chance to do them - even if you don't really want to do them. Though, I do like the look of the yard after it has been mown.
At this time of the year there is a fair bit of colour in the garden, even on the grey days. I don't know what these yellow flowers are called as we got them from the neighbour when we moved in, but they are going great guns this year. They are very leggy though, so not my favourites, but still - nice to have some colour.
And then, there are the poppies that is one of the few remaining low plants from the previous owners. We dug them out of random places in the yard earlier and put them in the garden bed where we now have a million peonies. The peonies haven't opened yet, so there is a bit of staggering with the colour. But once the peonies die back, the bed is just green. That is okay, but I wish I knew more about timing blooms before I started planting things.
Live and learn.
How many poppies do I need to harvest some cocaine??
My additional plan for the day was to clean the house, but I have failed in that quest. I did make it to the gym for a short workout and spent a few hours playing with and talking to Smallsteps, as well as walking the dog a few times. But, no vacuuming was done, no bathroom cleaned. And yes, it is normally I who do it, since I am not working full-time anyway.
However, since Smallsteps is in bed already and I can't vacuum, what I will do is grab a glass of wine, put on some football, and fold the mountain of clean laundry that I did get to do the last couple days. My wife will get back late tonight from her partying, so perhaps tomorrow she can do some of the tasks I missed, while I am moving furniture.
I volunteered my service to help them move, so it is my own fault.
And anyway, it makes me feel good to help people when they need, plus I need to get my steps and exercise in also. I have been crushing it lately with various activities, but once it gets to the evening and I sit down and write, my sedentary hours explode. When I am training I raise the desk so I am standing and moving, but I haven't written that way so I was thinking, perhaps my next post will be written from a standing position. Maybe it will be about how much it sucks - or perhaps it is awesome. Either way, I should learn to do it more because sitting is terrible for us.
