I held you close looking into your eyes,
as you gently breathed that day.
I told you I'd always be there for you,
and I'd never be far away.
A promise I intended to keep
and still have intention today.
Though it feels ever less likely,
as my mind flutters further astray.
To see you grow first steps and teeth,
first word, and first fall.
To lift you up and brush you off,
to hold your hand so small.
At some point the fear was replaced,
and I was standing tall.
Soon enough it came crashing down,
Firm hand to illegible scrawl.
Milestones came and go,
with many more along your trail.
Adventures await in the unknown ahead,
untrodden path and at full sail.
You will brave it all and challenge,
and in your face fear will pale.
If only I could have kept my word,
to succeed instead of fail.
Be part of the Hive discussion.
And you may be rewarded.
