I think you are going to like it when they (re)introduce leagues into Modern next week.

This was the system in the game when I started, it allowed me to first build a Bronze deck, get familiar with it ( as you only play other bronze lvl decks), learn the strategies and then card by card build my deck up to Silver.

I still play Silver Wild in Brawls because this is where I spent most of my time and it's a level I like and know well

The downside is that you will not be able to stretch into higher leagues with lower lvl cards, but all in all it think it is much better for learning the strats/good cards at a lvl and honing your deck step by step
