If you are planning the layout of your newborn room, here are some helpful tips.

Have everything in arm's reach. Just like you have your kitchen triangle with stove, counter top, and sink, you want to have the same triangle with bassinet, changing table, and chest of drawers with all your supplies. When you are changing the baby you want to have everything available right there, so that you never have to leave the baby unattended.

Some of the things I find useful to have at hand:

  • Diaper cream or coconut oil to prevent diaper rush on your baby's bum
  • Diapers. I always have two or three varieties of diapers and use them interchangeably so that if they cause any irritation, it doesn't always rub on the same place.
  • Blankets for swaddling
  • Paper towels
  • Face towels for any spit up or little messes that happen on the changing table
  • Diaper genie is really a genius solution for dirty diapers
  • Garbage bin for all other waste
  • Pacifier
  • Changing pad is a must
  • Vitamin D drops. Have these available where you can see it often not to forget to use them daily
  • Wipes to clean dirty bums
  • Safe cleaning solution to disinfect changing table surfaces
  • Towels for big messes
  • Face towels for any spit up or little messes that happen on the changing table
  • Onsies or other baby clothes you prefer, including socks, mittens, and hats

Other things that you should consider having in the same room:

  • Bassinet
  • Bouncer
  • Bouncing ball
  • White noise machine
  • Dimer on your light switch
