Welcome back followers. If you've been keeping up with my plight lately, you'll be glad to hear that today was a better day for me. I am, however coming down with a wicked cold, I can feel it in my ears and throat and shoulders, so I'm keeping it short today.

Feeding ewes this morning. Truck cooperated.

Hauled a load of manure to a sweet older couple from our church. Truck continued to cooperate.

Sorted and crutched the ewe lambs with my parents and brother (that's my mom helping me).20171023_150313.jpg

I'll elaborate on that slightly: my parents farm next door to us and all of our ewe lambs (female sheep born this year) were running together in a group, separate from the older ewes. My parents are planning to begin their breeding season in a week, and wanted to select out those lambs that were mature enough to be bred this year. I also pulled my more mature ewe lambs out, though mine won't be getting bred until January. We left a handful of smaller lambs to continue growing without the intense competition for feed they would experience if they were living with ewes two or even three times their weight. "Crutching" means trimming the wool between the back legs to remove soiled, poopy wool tags. We didn't do a full trim on these girls, just nipped off the larger messes.

Anyways. Smaller ewes left to grow:
