As I sit here, enjoying my candy tax (that is, the portion of candy happily given to me by my children from their haul), I am quite happy to know that tomorrow should ve considerably less 'busy'. There's always lots to do on the homestead, but for some reason, today seemed a little beyond the norm!
Let's start off with a dose of adorable-ness though.
There, wasn't that nice? Ok, moving on. First thing this morning my brother and dad came to help feed the sheep. My dad has a big skid steer tractor to move the big round bales for me.
We set out enough feed for the next 4 days. Then I went and got my parents' ram all dressed up in his Halloween costume marking harness, as tomorrow is his lucky day to be introduced to the ladies!
He's all cuddled up with the rest of the men in the bachelor pad, all trying to push up tight to be closest to the crack in the fence where the ewes come to flirt.
Then it was off to town to help my school-aged children get dressed for their classroom Halloween parties. Yahoo!
Got home from that ordeal and started making a path inside The Well Shed.
This picture was taken later in the evening, after the "path" had been made inside. This is the last structure left on our farm that was put up by the original owner of this land. Everything else has been demolished, although there are two small cement foundations that we will be able to reuse.
Inside The Well Shed, there is an old bored well. It was dug in 1919. The reason I was making the path into the shed was to determine if the well actually has usable water in it so that we can use it to water our sheep instead of carrying by the pail full from the house.
So, it turns out there IS water in the well, which should indeed be usable, although it needs a good shock chlorination. Wonderful news!
Then it was time to take the kids trick-or-treating. When you live in the country like I do, you end up knowing all your neighbors pretty well. So we all had fun collecting candy and visiting!
Then we got home and I hauled a lot of pails of water from the house out to the sheep, while the kids ate candy for supper (cuz you know, if bacon is for supper sometimes, so is candy).
And then I took the photos of The Well Shed.
It's like stepping into a horror movie, hey?
Watch out now! No doubt some type of demented creature lives in there, waiting to prey on foolish young virgins who watched a sketchy video!
Oh. Or maybe not. Just some scuzzy looking water waaaaay down there.
And that's my day. A very busy, but also very good, Halloween. Hope yours was great too! Thanks for reading my rambles!
