My husband works in Australia while we stay home here in Gisborne. By we, I mean our three children and myself. Its not an easy life that we have but it's what we do to get ahead. We are "doing it hard" now so that we don't have to struggle all our lives to make ends meet and pay our mortgage. My husband works four and one, which means he works four weeks in Australia and has seven days off, five of which is here in New Zealand, the other two spent travelling. We live a comfortable life for which we are all thankful, but we sacrifice precious time together to do so. This year will be our sixth year working FIFO and our children are 11, 5 & 6 so he has missed a lot of those special moments growing babies have. Initially we were only going to do this for two years but life has a way of changing everything up on us. This year however will be our last for sure. FIFO is not for everyone but our sacrifices have ensured that our home and all debt is paid for and we will have more quality family time in the years ahead.
