I have to say that I tried joking about it a few times with replies like:

I'm a trophy wife!

But I stopped because people were way too comfortable with that and never saw the sarcasm behind it. It was too weird for me to accept that it's better for them that I do nothing rather than do what I want.

"Following all-too familiar paths would lead you where everybody else is"

That is such a healthy way of looking at it, I hope more people will incorporate it in their vocabulary soon!
