In one of my past blogs I mentioned that I have some free time in the evenings for a good book or move, and I consider it to be one of the positive things related to the global pandemic. Since we are still social distancing from the rest of the world, when the every day hustle with my little one comes to an end, I enjoy some free time in a form of a book, series or a movie. So let's see:

The plot

The main character Ava (Jessica Chastain) is an assassin, who is presented in the first scenes of the movie as a powerful female personality, even when you still don't know what her job is. Speaking of, her job is as mentioned above to kill for money, simple as that. She travels the globe, gets hired by organization for high profile kills.

She has some flaws in her killing game, even if she is the best in the business. She often oversteps her boundaries, talks to subjects and has a past with addiction. She becomes a liability and has to fight for her own survival.

During the story line we get introduced to her sister, ex fiance, abusive and passive aggressive mother and her teacher or guide in her new life.

My immpresions

Considering I'm not loving a lot of movies lately, this was kind of refreshing. Or as I often say (after watching Chernobyl)

"Not good, not terrible"

The movie has the right idea, it's creative, should be pretty fun to watch. Fighting scenes are decent, I dare say good. I always enjoy female characters who can fight and still look feminine, as needed.

That being said, it left a bland aftertaste. I was a bit confused as to why she became a liability and made a target. Her fault was talking to the subjects who were going to die, anyway, so I didn't really see a problem there. Maybe it's because I don't know much about doing that job right.

I did how ever notice the remarkable acting skills of the main character, not so much loving the others. She represented the eternal internal fight we all go through, had a very expressive eyes always with a hint of sadness. On the other hand she perfectly represented cold heart murderer, border line sociopath.

By the end you do feel kind of sorry for her, even after she killed over 40 people. It's written so you would stand by the bad guy at the end. She did kill out of revenge and for survival, but the writer left one person alive, leaving room for sequel.
