Not too long ago my Mrs convinced me to loosen the purse strings and invest in a couple of new sofas for the living room. After what felt like years of my life we finally found the ideal piece of furniture and the transaction was completed. However, purchasing the new sofa was only the beginning as now came the problem of getting rid of the old ones. I offered them to charity shops and friends alike but I simply couldn't find anyone to take them off my hands. Ultimately, in a bid to rid myself of the unwanted chairs without paying a fee to the local council for their disposal I took an axe to them, chopped them into small pieces, threw them in the back of the car and took them to the local dump.
The log lady! One of Europe's lesser-known super agents
Tottenham Hotspur currently find themselves in a similar predicament with several of their unwanted players needing to be shifted out before they are able to bring in fresh reinforcements. Now unfortunately for Daniel Levy and Poch, it is somewhat frowned upon to chop people up and dump them in a giant bin - although there may be some kind of legal precedence in the case of Vincent Janssen, if you are a solicitor please make yourself known in the comments section.
As such Spurs will need to find unwitting buyers for the following players this year.
Vincent Janssen
Spurs record of signing wastes of space in the centre-forward position is surely 2nd to none. Janssen came into the squad with an impressive goals to game ratio in his native Holland but found the jump up to the EPL a little much. There was a suggestion last month that he may join Vincent Kompany at Anderlecht but that story seems to have evaporated as has interest in the Dutchman full stop. Given Spurs reluctance to sign anyone decent as Harry Kane's understudy and with Fernando Llorente's contract expired it's not entirely out of the question that Janssen will stay - God help us!
Victor Wanyama
It all started so well for the big Kenyan! I remember a game against Chelsea in his debut season where he was immense, literally carrying the diminutive Eden Hazard around in his pocket all match while regularly shrugging Diego Costa off the ball as if he were an under 14s player. Wanyama struggled with injuries last year and when he did return to the side looked well off the pace of the Premier League. The arrival of Ndombele, the emergence of Harry Winks and the improvement of Moussa Sissoko mean Wanyama is likely to struggle for game time next season. An underlying factor in his reluctance to leave right away maybe his 6 year qualifying period in the UK that would allow him to gain citizenship.
Wanyama was instrumental to Spurs victory in this match
Kieran Trippier
12 months ago Trippier was returning back from a decent World Cup campaign that had been brought about as a result of some good performances for Spurs in 2017/18. A year later and the right-back incurred the wrath of Spurs supporters particularly in regards some of his performances at the back end of last season. Trippier is said to be courting interest from around the continent and Spurs are likely to favour sending him abroad as opposed to another Premier League club unless that club wishes to pay a premium on him.

Serge Aurier
Has struggled to really establish himself since moving from PSG a couple of seasons ago. There were some promising signs at the start of 2018/19 as he struck up a good partnership with Sissoko down the right flank but injuries soon put a stop to that. With both first choice right-backs in the shop window, it seems likely that Spurs will give Kyle Walker-Peters a chance this year alongside the young Argentine Juan Foyth. KWP's inclusion in the squad would also benefit Spurs as they look to maintain a sufficient quota of homegrown players.
Foyth is tipped to play a more prominent role for Spurs this year
Josh Onomah
A legend in his own lunchtime! There were reports that Onomah reported for his first day of training with the first-team squad driving an overly flashy car, a move that resulted in Poch castigating him in front of the senior players. He has spent a couple of seasons out on loan at Championship clubs but hasn't really shown enough to suggest that he is off Premier League quality. A Birmingham based newspaper recently ran an article suggesting that Villa (one of the clubs he was loaned to) might be interested in re-signing him.
Marcus Edwards
Edwards has been the next big thing coming through the youth academy for some time. He's represented England at all age levels but there are rumours that the lad's attitude isn't what Poch is looking for and he may, therefore, be willing to hear bids for the young winger. The fact that Spurs were prepared to invest in Jack Clarke, a similar style player with similar experience doesn't suggest that Edwards has much a future at the club.
