I think this one of the main reasons why I try not to be fixated on goals, be in long term or medium. It tends to give you a tunnel vision where everything other than the goal can't be discerned or made sense of.

When goals don't materialize according to our expectations, setbacks hit harder and can sometimes spiral into giving up altogether on the things we want to achieve.

But going with the flow can also be scary, like being a leaf caught in the wind and not knowing where life will take you. Requires a great dose of belief in God to weather the seemingly insensible ups and downs.
