Yes, at least try fixing the problem before resigning entirely to replacing the equipment. I think the access to information does help in part, as if I don't know where to have the information to work things out, I'd probably not bother much trying to fix the problem. Definitely tougher financial circumstances is a blessing in disguise as long as it works in putting more self-reliance skills on the toolbox.
