I have been using Brave for more than 2 years now and I must say that I am very happy with it. I must say that Brave is the best browser out there and I don't see a reason why everyone shouldn't use it. I have been using it on both mobile and pc and so far, I have had no complaints. The Android version kept hanging my phone in the past but that has been fixed and now it runs very smoothly.
That's not it, besides providing the best user experience, Brave has helped me earn some BAT tokens as well. I earn 30-50 BAT tokens on an average per month by watching ads, from referrals, and from monthly grants. However, it seems that monthly grants stopped as I haven't received any from the past 6 months or so. But still, Brave has helped me earn more than $10 per month for just using it.
However, recently a controversy sparked in the crypto world when a Twitter user found out that Brave is hijacking links and inserting their affiliate links when a user browses certain sites. Those sites include binance.com, binance.us, coinbase.com, ledger.com, etc. This is not the first time Brave has done this, they did a similar kind of affiliate thing in March on a website called etoro.
A Twitter user, cryptonato1337 came to know about this first and he posted it on Twitter.
It was posted almost 20 hours ago and it has got the crypto community talking. While it is not wrong to do affiliate marketing but a proper disclaimer should have been there. As Brave's selling point is transparency and privacy if they are not transparent with their users then what is the point of using their services. It is believed that Brave CEO, Brendan Eich is like WWE's Vince McMahon, they do their work as they please and Eich has said that there is nothing wrong with it.
Crypto community isn't okay with what Brave has been doing and they are starting to worry already. BAT forms a big chunk of my crypto portfolio and I don't want my investment to fail. This is really a setback but I believe Brave will take over Chrome someday if they stop doing such activities. Brave just reached 15 million monthly users and the growth has been phenomenal and they just need to capitalize on what's already achieved and do things with transparency in the future.
