Buenos días, buenas tardes o buenas noches, damas y caballeros.

Good morning, good afternoon or good evening, ladies and gentlemen. How are you? How are you doing today? I hope very well. The other day I set myself the goal of properly playing a video game, you know, trying to complete it fully, because, to be honest with you, it's been a very long time since I last finished a game in a way that I see the credits and feel truly fulfilled. It's also because certain unforeseen events happened that get you down; for example, I was playing Resident Evil 1 for the PSX and, seriously, I had made a lot of progress, with a good amount of weapons and ammunition. I had just got to the point after killing the snake and going down some stairs where there's a door and where Barry, rather suspiciously, seems to have dropped the rope. The problem is that, after adding more games, the console crashed and I had to reinstall everything all over again, so goodbye save file. In this case, I decided to get serious with a PSP game that is based on one of my favourite animes, which is Fate/stay night. So, without further ado, let's talk a bit about my first impressions playing Fate/Extra.

Starting the game, we control a black-haired student. We'll go about daily life in the mythical school that Shirou attended in the anime. We're tired of the monotony and of doing the same thing over and over again: seeing the same classes, the same events, then going home and then back to school. Although everything will start to become a bit strange when, through the investigations we're tasked with for the school newspaper, we witness some bizarre things that, honestly, no one seems to care about, like seeing people disappearing on the rooftop, seeing ghost girls, seeing a teacher surrounded by a pile of dead students. We'll report all of this to the president of the journalism club, but she acts as if nothing is wrong. Without a doubt, something seems strange.

Everything will change radically for us with the appearance of a boy named Leo, who seems to come from Europe and be of royal descent. He, in particular, doesn't last long at school: just two days. On the second day, he announces in front of the class that he's leaving and disappears, then reappears in the corridor. We'll follow him, and he'll walk through a wall; we, with all our determination to find out what's going on, follow him, and he'll take us to another dimension where there's a strange puppet, which will attack us and we'll die. It turns out we were just an NPC. Our real character will be given a name, and we'll be able to choose our Heroic Spirit, as the game's story truly begins.

I really liked that introduction, although, honestly, the whole 'it's all a simulation and we have to escape from it' thing is a bit overdone these days, but I'll let it slide because it did strike me as odd that the game didn't let me name the character from the start. As for the Heroic Spirit I chose, well, I chose Caster, because it's quite obvious the other two are Saber and Archer; I'm already familiar with them, so I'll leave them for later. I understand there are multiple endings depending on the choices you make during the adventure, and also, obviously, depending on which Heroic Spirit you pick, plus there are endings in which you die.

Regarding the combat system, it's nothing new, but it consists of an RPG where you attack based on rock-paper-scissors, being able to select each of them six times. If both pick the same, they tie; and if what you pick is effective against what your opponent picks, then you'll deal damage. If you land three correct guesses, you then perform an extra attack. That's it, apart from the special attacks, which I don't yet know how they work. What follows is a sort of Battle Royale where I'll have to face off against the other Masters who also want the Holy Grail – something that's confirmed when they tell me the remaining number of participants. What I can expect is a video game full of a lot of text, but with a very good story, where I'll have to face characters from the anime. So I'm going all in. I'll keep you updated on my progress.
