My experience buying manga in Spain (+Bakemonogatari)

At the beginning of the year I decided to try importing things to my country, here there is practically nothing related to anime and manga, so by force you have to buy imported products with a fairly acceptable price or import them yourself, I opted for the second option, I thought it would be much cheaper but how naive I was. Starting, the first thing I did was to decide what I would buy, so I opted for a manga of an anime I had seen recently, the title in question was Blue Period, I looked for a shop in Spain where they sold it and the shipping was free, the chosen one was MilkyWay Ediciones (publisher responsible for bringing several manga to Spanish), I completed the purchase successfully using my Zinli card (good recommendation from @rishahp to make online purchases) and in the address I put the data that Liberty Express told me.

A principios del año decidí probar importar cosas a mi país, acá prácticamente no hay nada relacionado con el anime y manga, así que a la fuerza hay que comprar productos importados con un precio medianamente aceptable o importarlos tú mismo, yo opté por la segunda opción, pensé que me saldría mucho más económico pero qué ingenuo fuí. Comenzando, lo primero que hice fue decidir qué compraría, por lo que opté por un manga de un anime que había visto recientemente, el título en cuestión era Blue Period, busqué una tienda en España donde lo vendieran y el envío saliera gratis, la elegida fue MilkyWay Ediciones (editorial encargada de traer varios mangas al castellano), la compra la completé satisfactoriamente usando mi tarjeta Zinli (buena recomendación de @rishahp para hacer compras online) y en la dirección coloqué los datos que me indicó Liberty Express.

Using the Liberty Express courier was @zhoten's idea, who had told me about a friend of his who had brought some things from USA and they charged him 15$ for shipping, it seemed quite affordable at the time. So @zhoten and I decided to make use of the lockers we had created in that shipping company, he importing from the USA, I decided to import from Europe so as not to do the same and to try something different. Once the manga was purchased, it took about 3 days to arrive at its destination, the locker in Spain. During this process I was quite anxious, checking every day the page where it told you the status of the shipment, until it finally arrived and I was notified by text message, technology of the future I thought. All very good, all very nice, before they mailed me how much the shipment to my country would cost, the book had cost me 8.5€, an acceptable price, but what I didn't expect was the 20€ shipping. I would spend more than 30$ for a manga that I was practically going to read in one day, totally unacceptable.

Usar el courrier de Liberty Express fue idea de @zhoten, quién me había contado acerca de un amigo suyo que había traído unas cosas desde USA y le cobraron 15$ de envío, me pareció bastante asequible en aquel momento. Por lo tanto @zhoten como yo, decidimos darle uso a los casilleros que nos habíamos creado en dicha empresa de envíos, él importando desde Estados Unidos, yo para no hacer lo mismo y para probar algo diferente, decidí hacerlo desde Europa. Una vez comprado el manga, tardó aproximadamente 3 días llegar a su destino, el casillero en España. Durante ese proceso estuve bastante ansioso, revisando todos los días la página donde te decía el estado del envío, hasta que por fin llegó y se me notificó por mensaje de texto, tecnología del futuro pensé. Todo muy bien, todo muy bonito, antes de que me mandarán por correo cuánto costaría el traslado hacia mi país, el libro me había salido en 8,5€, un precio aceptable, pero lo que no me esperaba era el envío de 20€. Gastaría más de 30$ por un manga que prácticamente me iba a leer en un día, totalmente inaceptable.

The funny thing is that the parcel company, which should have a method of payment that I can execute in my country, didn't. They wanted me to make a bank transfer to a Spanish bank. They offered me to execute the payment by VISA debit card, so I accepted as I had the Zinli card. The problem occurred when I tried to pay through the link they gave me, I tried many times and the only thing that came up was an authentication error, I informed them of the error and they gave me another link, but the same thing happened again. Then the only solution they could come up with was to send them photos of the card front and back and they would try to swipe it at their point of sale, which I refused because they asked me for ID as well. I really had the idea of paying for shipping to experience importing something to my country but @stk-g gave me a better idea, to buy manga from an Instagram shop he had seen before, so I ended up buying Bakemonogatari and leaving the Blue Period manga stranded in Spain. It came out at $15, $7.45 less than what I was going to end up paying if I made the shipment from Spain to Venezuela, but I did lose the $9.5 for the manga I was originally going to buy.

Lo más cómico es que la empresa de encomiendas, que debería tener un método de pago que yo pueda ejecutar en mi país, no lo tenía. Ellos querían que les hiciera una transferencia bancaria a un banco español, obviamente yo no tengo eso y se los dije. Me ofrecieron ejecutar el pago mediante tarjeta de débito VISA, por lo que acepté ya que tenía la tarjeta Zinli. El incoveniente ocurre cuando intento pagar por el enlace que ellos me pasaron, intenté muchas veces y lo único que salía era error de autenticación, les informé del error y me pasaron otro enlace, volvía a pasar lo mismo. Luego la única solución que se les pasó por la mente ofrecerme era que les mandara fotos de la tarjeta por delante y por detrás y ellos la intentarían pasar por su punto de venta, a lo cual me negué porque me pedían la identificación de identidad también. De verdad tenía la idea de pagar el envío para vivir la experiencia de importar algo a mi país pero @stk-g me dió una mejor idea, que comprara manga en una tienda de Instagram que él había visto antes, por lo que terminé comprando Bakemonogatari y dejando el manga de Blue Period varado en España. Me salió en 15$, 7,45$ menos de lo que iba a terminar pagando si concretaba el envío de España a Venezuela, eso sí, perdí los 9,5$ del manga que originalmente compraría.

To be honest, though, I first asked several other shops to compare prices and to see if they had immediate availability. Some shops were very slow to respond, some had impeccable customer service. The one that treated me the best was the one that had been recommended to me previously in a conversation at Hive Gaming, so I decided to buy from them, I think it was a very good choice. They were from another state, well, actually almost all of them were, they should open a manga shop in my state, I don't know what they are waiting for, so the package took me approximately 3 to 4 days to arrive, I ended up with anxiety again. So as you can imagine, when it arrived I ended up paying even more because the shipping wasn't free, 4$. I think this was all a rather expensive whim, maybe I should have bought two in one go to make the shipping more worthwhile, but what can you do. I was still pretty excited when I had the product in my hands, it was the first time I had ever owned such an item, so once I got in the car after picking up the sleeve, I opened it immediately. It was beautiful, I'm not going to lie to you.

Aunque si les soy sincero, primero pregunté en varias tiendas más para comparar precios y para ver si tenían disponibilidad inmediata. Algunas tiendas tardaban mucho en responder, algunas tenían una atención al cliente impecable. La que mejor me trató fue la que me habían recomendado anteriormente en una conversación en Hive Gaming, por lo que decidí comprarles a ellos, creo que fue una muy buena elección. Eran de otro estado, bueno, en realidad casi todos lo eran, deberían sacar una tienda de manga en mi estado, no sé que están esperando, por lo que el paquete me tardía aproximadamente de 3 a 4 días en llegar, terminé con ansiedad otra vez. Así que como se imaginarán, cuando llegó a destino terminé pagando aún más porque el envío no era gratis, 4$. Creo que todo esto fue un capricho bastante caro, quizás debería haber comprado dos de golpe para que el envío valiera más la pena, pero qué se le hace. Igualmente estuve bastante emocionado cuando tuve el producto en mis manos, era la primera vez que poseía un artículo de esta índole, por lo que, una vez me monté en el carro después de haber recogido el manga, lo abrí inmediatamente. Estaba hermoso, no les voy a mentir.

I decided to buy Bakemonogatari because I had previously seen the anime, the proposal is quite interesting but the pace was quite slow and heavy so sooner or later I always end up stopping watching it, it has happened to me exactly twice, the second being the time I endured watching the most chapters. I understand that the manga version has nothing to do with the anime, so it is a totally new reinterpretation of the light novels, a version that I find more enjoyable because of the speed of reading. Bakemonogatari tells the adventures of Araragi, a half-vampire boy who will have to help various people solve their paranormal problems through the power of speech. Really, if you go to see this play, don't expect fights or anything like that, it's the opposite of that and when you finally think a fight is going to happen, you're going to be viciously deceived. The plot is unique in itself, it has a lot of weird moments but that's what makes it iconic and cult.

Decidí comprar Bakemonogatari debido a que anteriormente me había visto su anime, la propuesta es bastante interesante pero el ritmo se me hacía bastante lento y pesado por lo que tarde o temprano siempre la termino dejando de ver, me ha pasado exactamente dos veces, la segunda siendo la vez que más capítulos soporté ver. La versión en manga tengo entendido que no tiene nada que ver con el anime, así que es un reinterpretación totalmente nueva de las novelas ligeras, versión que encuentro más disfrutable por la rapidez que supone una lectura. Bakemonogatari nos narra las aventuras de Araragi, un chico medio vampiro que tendrá que ayudar a diversas personas a solucionar sus problemas paranormales mediante el poder del habla. De verdad, si van a ver esta obra no esperen peleas o algo por el estilo, es todo lo opuesto a eso y cuando por fin piensas que va a ocurrir una pelea, vas a resultar vilmente engañado. La trama es particular de por sí, tiene muchos momentos extraños pero es lo que la hace icónica y una obra de culto.

Soon I plan to try to bring manga but from the United States, as at the time of writing this paragraph, @zhoten received his package from Liberty Express and was only charged 6.3$, quite an economical cost for a shipment in my opinion. You know, if you decide to import something never do it from Spain, the kings of taxes will always rape you with shipping. In the future, I obviously plan to have my own manga collection, always trying to get the best price, although I might always end up overspending, maybe going bankrupt and a thousand dollars in debt for asking Binance for money, God have mercy on my poor soul and be with me in my misfortunes.

Próximamente tengo planeado probar traer mangas pero desde Estados Unidos, ya que al momento de escribir este párrafo, @zhoten recibió su paquete de Liberty Express y solo se le cobró 6,3$, costo bastante económico de un envío a mi parecer. Ya saben, sí deciden importar algo no lo hagan nunca desde España, los reyes de los impuestos siempre te van a violar con los envíos. En un futuro, obviamente pienso tener mi propia colección de mangas, intentando siempre obtener el mejor precio, aunque quizás siempre termine gastando de más, quizás quedando en quiebra y con mil dólares en deudas por pedirle dinero a Binance, Dios se apide de mi pobre alma y me acompañe en mis desventuras.
