So before I came to this platform I was told the best place to showcase my talents for writing was Wattpad.
As someone short on cash, putting an entire book up for free made me uneasy. Especially if someone could copy the idea and sell it. So after almost a year on this platform I am creating a new intiative for writers.
This is a way for writers to create their own book from scratch on steemit. And have it grow with them on this beautiful platform.
Just use the tag #mysteembook and continue your story. See what happens.
So steem and write on!
Chapter one
Ice crinkled. Nelson pressed the bag deeper into his face. Pain throbbed across his cheekbone as the cold wet plastic bag filled with ice slithered beneath his hand.
The phone rang.
Nelson rolled over. Pressing his ear into the couch cushion. The shrill ringing seemed to reverberate and grow louder with each second.
Surely no call was so important it needed to be this painful?
The machine beeped. Through the house a familiar voice called his name. "Nelson. I know you can hear me. We need to talk. There's something you should see."
He gave a sigh.
Go to hell he mumbled.
"I know you're not wanting to talk over the phone right now but this is important."
Nelson sat up and made his way to the kitchen. Knocking echoed from the front door. Nelson leapt to his feet. His handgun was on the kitchen counter merely a foot away.
"You going to let me in or not? I brought food."
Nelson opened his fridge. The gallon of milk and a grapefruit inside taunted him.
He better have Chinese.
Nelson opened the door.
"Mitch."
His eyes cast down to his hands. A large box of pizza filled it. He walked away box in hand.
His visitor stood by the open door shifting his stance.
"Can I come inside?" Nelson sat on the couch.
He bit into a slice of pizza, cheese streching from his mouth. He chewed as his guest sat down gingerly on the couch beside him, flicking pretzel crumbs off the cushion.
"Why are you here?"
He squirmed in his seat, volumes of cheap colonge radiating off of him.
"I came by to check on you."
Nelson wiped away pizza grease on his jeans.
"Nel I know it's been rough but-."
Pizza dropping into the cardboard box echoed like a gunshot.
"Rough?"
Nelson stared at the half eaten pizza slice and closed the box.
"Rough is being cut off and missing the light. This has been hell."
Mitch twiddled his fingers. "Have you slept?"
"Hardly."
He stood and went to the wall. And stared at the calendar.
Two weeks ago was circled with a big red circle. A star drawn on the 8th.
" Everything I ever wanted I had. Glory, friends, money, women."
Mitch nodded. "The thing about the top of world. It hurts going down but you can get back up there." He looked at Nelsons cheekbone.
It was a yellowish purple hue.
"He got you good with that pistol whip huh."
Nelson shrugged. "Never saw him."
He looked at his friend his eyes narrowing.
"Why am I here? For real?"
Mitch put a hand on the couch. "It was difficult being your agent. The calls the questions even the papparazi ambushing me to ask why you snapped. The studio has treated me like the plague. NASA and the Rock Hopper group has made sure the other trainees dont speak about or to us."
Nelson scoffed.
"The point is there was a firestorm last night and you slept through after your three day netflix and snack food binge."
Nelson cocked his head.
His agent continued.
"A business owner released security footage of the attack. Whole thing. Twitter took it and ran. Hastag 'they screwed Nelson' trending
Nelson picked up the pizza box. "So magically everyone loves me again and I get my job back? Sorry Mitch, fairytales are for children and starving artists."
Mitch takes a slice from the box. " I'm no fairy godmother but I'm carrying you back to the promised land. You have an interview with a late night show. So get cleaned up and stop looking like an elephant crapped in your jeans. We got plans out of state."
Nelson handed him the box. "I have to go back on tv? Mitch. I can't."
"Just laugh at his jokes and answer the questions. Over before you know it."
Nelson looked at his friend in the eyes.
"Mitch this isn't pulling off a band aid. I can't do it."
He slumped onto his couch.
"I killed a man."
