What is the steamtram in Bern, is the funiculaire for Friborg. This is one of the last hydroelectric powered cable cars in Europe. The railway was opened on February 4, 1899, and was an important link between the suburbs of Unterstadt and Oberstadt. Since the railway is also run by public transport companies (tpf), mainly young men are employed who are trained as bus drivers Probation period after the employment.
I myself worked here thirty years ago as a young man before I changed to the driving service. Since the railway is operated with waste water, in certain weather conditions, there are marked odors from the sewage system which are not popular with all passengers. As the more prosperous people lived in the upper town and the poor in the suburbs, the saying "The shit of the rich draws the poor up to work", "La merde des riches tire les pauvres au travail"
When visiting Friborg, however, you should make a trip with this unique cable car. It is worth it, just because of the grand view. You can keep your nose when it is necessary.
