Ever since it was announced that the seventh season of American Horror Story would center around the 2016 election I was instantly uninterested. I hear enough about that crap on a daily basis that I felt that I didn't want it tainting my escapism. In my mind I was envisioning a very campy satirical season dedicated to assassinating Trump's character, as if he doesn't do that well enough on his own. And I just didn't want anything to do with some piece of social justice propaganda. So... I may have been wrong. In fact, I think I was, and I'm very happy.

The marketing for Cult has been much less misleading than it was for the last season, which I appreciate. Each teaser piqued my interest a bit more, as it conflicted with the preconceived notions I had of what I thought the season would be about. Clowns? How does that fit in? Then they released the trailer.... That trailer... I'm officially hyped. It seems to be a somewhat satirical take on both sides of the spectrum. Those who believed Donald Trump getting elected was the end of the world, and those who see him as the second coming of Christ. Oh yeah, and on top of that there seems to be a cult of clowns terrorizing everyone.

They smartly took one of the only parts of 'Freakshow' which actually worked, Twisty the clown, and seem to have incorporated him into this season. It was a very short trailer and I've stood away from any interviews and the like, so my information is limited. However I'm speculating that this group of sinister clowns is actually a cult formed in dedication to Twisty, who's work they're trying to continue. Or maybe he's even alive somehow? Although I'd prefer the former. I'm hoping that the show runners highlight the analogy between these delusional individuals and the people who subscribe to the group thought that is plaguing the nation right now. I'm going to be upset if I've been mislead and the entire season is dedicated to bashing Trump, Hillary, or even focuses too much on the actual election itself. I think that there's an interesting plot line to be found within this premise, and one which can send an important message. I just hope that writers decided to capitalize on that.

I hope I didn't miss anything. I just barely saw the trailer and ran it back a couple of time out of excitement. Here's to what hopefully turns out to be a great season!
