Decentralisation - what a beautiful word and thing, of course, we are not truly decentralised on steem, but we are working towards that. As you probably all know at this moment steemit is not operational, and people can't use it, but here I am - on steem blockchain writing a post using different front-end completely separated from steemit, and using RPC node from anyx. In an ideal situation we would have an equal number of RPC nodes and number of witnesses but there are various reasons why that is not happening on steem and we are highly dependant on steemit's infrastructure - but as you are witnessing right now, not completely!
Dandelions are beautiful, and they can serve as nice inspiration for a reminder of what cryptocurrency and blockchain is trying to achieve and what we are aiming for. I hope Taraz won't mind, but I will use his post to present this, since he is way better with words than I am, and probably will ever be. The world will never run out of dandelions
Short explanatory photo story of the current situation:
Let's see the whole blockchain as a single dandelion plant(or just the seed head/container).
In the beginning of HF22 there was a crucial error, the whole chain was frozen - and there was great effort from all consensus witnesses (and some others) and Steemit team to restore the chain. The fix was deployed, chain restored and steem was operational, yet applications did not work yet. Most of the RPC nodes were down, and currently, we have only 2 or 3 operational - but we can interact on chain again through apps!
If our dandelion takes a big blow or simple breeze - all the seeds will scatter around finding their own ways and eventually sprout into more beautiful dandelions (not forking steem - just containing all information from the steem blockchain), but still, they belong to mother dandelion, in our case, Steem. With plant genetic history (I know my story is getting messy, but bear with me) all these seeds communicate together (Actually trees in a forest can exchange information between them).
This analogy is very poor and not really accurate how the things work. but you get the idea.
Now lets take a closer look to our dandelion!
The last image(and first) is showing the interconnection between all nodes on a steem blockchain and the information they poses needs to be verified from every other node.
