My friend asked me to write about his love life; yea, well break-up story to be exact. For a moment, I was “Dude, you sure about that?” and he said “Yea, why not? It’s not like you have to write my whole biography, so it’s fine. Write it.” So, here I am, writing about my friend’s love life aka break-up story.
I think one of the cruelest ways of a break-up is getting dumped on your birthday. How can a person claim to love you or even like you if they don’t even put any effort to remember your birthday! Yes, birthday isn’t a big thing and I don’t celebrate my birthday either, but I really appreciate it when someone actually remembers and wishes me. I guess it shows quite ingenuity to leave someone high and dry if you split up with that person on that very special day; and hey, you’ll get a chance to stay remembered for a long time for being the douche who broke it off on his/her birthday. Then again, I wouldn’t count on it either.
His break up story was more than a year ago and you can say the bruises are still a little fresh. That relationship was short-lived, close to 4 months (give or take a few days); technically I wouldn’t have called it a relationship if he hadn’t said he was deeply in love and planning for a wedding. That dumb idiot fell head over heels in a matter of few days; if you think I didn’t tell him that then you’re right, I only told him, “Desperate much?” He had his 31st birthday recently and being single weighed on him big time; I can’t blame him too much as relationships are getting shorter every day. I can barely understand people. You know one of the perks of the Internet is that you can get connected to people from all over the world; the outcome of it is dating apps. Okay, I know some people still think that dating apps are just trash and they’re not wrong. I also know that people nowadays don’t just meet randomly at coffee shops reaching for the same straw or bump into each other and fall in love at first sight and there aren’t meet-cute anymore; for some people love at first sight is a red flag. The color of love is red, hence the red flags.
Even with the monumental amount of hurdles and struggles, people fancy the idea of love (or perhaps something else). I can tell you his story in a few short lines, but where’s the fun in that? His story isn’t fun; me writing about it is fun. Oh, I was telling you about how he met the girl of his dreams on one of the dating apps and the girl was from another part of the country. So, they swiped right and went directly to the private chat section. After a few hours of chatting, they exchanged their numbers and now they’re connected in WhatsApp and Messenger. The love birds soon confessed their feelings to one another and there were sunshine and rainbows all around; it went downhill as fast as it rose. One day he was checking his Facebook and saw she uploaded some other guy’s picture and it didn’t sit well with him; well, he didn’t like how cozy they were and he thought of asking her. All she said was he was her grad school friend, and he thought of not asking her anymore questions. It was possible that they were just good friends, and he was being jealous and possessive or his doubts could be right. Soon after he would see more of their pictures together every other day and regardless of what he felt, he didn’t ask her anything. She was getting busier with her studies (as she said) and they were talking less and less. He was getting a bit more frustrated and her busy schedule was straining on their “relationship”. After a few weeks he just got fed up and told her that if she wanted to break up, then she’s free to do it and from that point she became a little more attentive towards him. His birthday was drawing near and although he said that the day doesn’t hold much significance to him, he still thought she’d wish him. He got his wish though; the days before that special day, things went back to how they were, an enormous communication gap between them. The night before, they texted each other good night, and it saddened him a bit; but the surprise gift he got the next morning was extraordinary. After he woke up, he unlocked his phone thinking of texting her “good morning” but he couldn’t find her account. She didn’t block him, no, she deleted all of her social media accounts; but was nowhere to be found. He tried her number, and it was unreachable; he tried from other numbers and it was still switched off. Can you imagine what he was going through? I got to hear the story months after the incident so I can’t think what he went through.
The new age technology and new age relationship.
I can’t go on more about this story; and I have heard too many similar stories like this. The vanishing act perfected.
