The Negril Traffic Light?
The Rondel.
The question mark is there because in all my times to Negril there has never once been a traffic light. Is this even believable? Or was I dreaming? A traffic light on the main drag of Norman Manley Blvd. in Negril, Jamaica?
It's inconceivable.
When I first visited Negril in the 1980s - never - in your wildest dreams could I have envisioned this phenomenon. Thusly, on subsequent visits, yeah the same, just easy driving around the roundabout, either hitting the West End Road or continuing onto A2 to Savanna la Mar.
There it is. The Traffic Light.
No traffic light - never a traffic jam in Negril, Jamaica - never. Who needs a traffic light?
Fast forward and it's 2014, transport from Mo Bay, stretching my neck, reliving sights, for it doesn't - or so I thought - ever change. Visuals always the same, but something was wrong with the visual in '14. It was the traffic light. A traffic light right smack dab in front of Rondel Village of all places - my favorite place of stay.

It just couldn't be. The only thing worse would be two traffic lights.
I had to get to the bottom of this. I investigated, I asked questions, my incurring mind simply had to know. Could I be in the TWILIGHT ZONE? After endless investigation, I found out the light had a 'manual' switch which was solely operational via the Rondel security guard - Christopher.
The purpose - to stop traffic for crossing tourists as they traversed over from the roadside garden area to the beach side. Come on - gimme a break!
Now honestly, I haven't been back since '14, but with all this Reggaesteem lately - something in my brain is calling me back. A trip is in the works....
Yes mon - Jamaica is calling me back.
Could there be another traffic light this go around? Where this time could it be located? I hope this is all a dream. I hope the first one was removed, and the funk sway is back in action. But this, I'll have ask our boots on the ground
