Greetings hivers and all students alumni here
Questions like this reminds me of what most parents go through to make sure their adult children are not left out in becoming responsible and taking care of themselves in due time, as change continue to make things evolve around the world 馃寧.
As children keep growing from their tender age and entering adolescence, they began to develop and have dreams which sometimes they share with their parents. And parents with the love 馃挄 they have for their children, will keep working harder to be able to help their wards achieve their goals as time goes by. But unfortunately, sometimes the plans and struggles never works out as planned, which is why most adults children ends up in the hands of their parents taking care of them.
The issue here is that there is no adult child that will be happy with their parents taking care of them or being a responsibility to their parents after graduating from university or any higher institution. Adulthood is a stage in life where everyone who falls under this category knows that he or she is expected to take responsibility by being independent. And parents works so hard to support their wards to get to this stage, hoping that their children will settle into taking care of themselves once the time comes.
The Question: Should Parents Still Be Financially Responsible For Their Adult Children?
My answer to this question should be YES and NO considering the instances I will give below:
I will say YES here considering how sone adult children will finish university, go for their Youth Service and after that finds it very difficult to get a job that can hardly cover their transportation fare. Most graduates these days are just thriving with whatever they can lay their hands on which is why we see most parents still taking responsibility of their children, especially when it comes to accommodation issues where an adult child is not capable enough to rent a house yet because of poor income.
We can say this very problem of parents taking responsibility of their adult children is majorly happening in the most third tier countries, where the government can not establish good and proper foundations to help their citizens unlike their counterparts countries where every youth and students are paid monthly from the government purse 馃憸. Example is in the America 馃嚭馃嚫 where some students receive CSS . And which can help them save into their adult life and get established without parents assistance.
So it becomes a big border for parents in countries where their adult children has no grant from the government and no good job at the same time to help them start taking responsibility. This has made it mandatory for parents to keep supporting their adult children in any little way they could. But once the child start earning something reasonable, it becomes obvious that his or her parents stop supporting.
And I will say NO here in the instance where an adult child has graduated from the university, has a good paying job that can help him to always solve and settle bills . Especially if the job is the type that the parents knows that he or she does not need any more assistance for.
And again, some parents who are well to do usually will help their grown up children to secure a good job in a company or help set up a very big business for them. Using it as a start up settlement to them. This in simple understanding shows that they do not expect that child to keep coming back to them. So it鈥檚 left for anyone involved in this kind of settlement not to expect anything again from their parents.
In conclusion, no parents will want to cast out a child because he or she is grown to be taken responsibility of themselves financially, when fully knowing that child is not earning because children longs to be in the position where they take over financial responsibilities of their parents. It鈥檚 always a thing of joy for parents to see their adult children doing well in life. Signifying that their labour as parents has paid off which is why they will keep supporting their wards until they stand on their feet. And unless where the parents are no longer capable.
