When it rains, it pours! The heavy snow took down the gutter, and the plumbers found a large hole in the line that needed extensive repair. Now, the third has arrived.

We discovered a slow leak in the half-bath off the family room that has ruined the lower panels of drywall. We never saw the leak underneath the vanity until I found mold in the corner.

I ripped off the lower wall because it felt soft to the touch in places due to the moisture. Next, hubby removed the vanity and found the culprit. One of the galvanized pipes rusted just enough to let water drip, and slow enough not to be noticed.

With the drywall removed, I thoroughly cleaned the cement wall and applied a dry-lock sealer to both the wood and the cement.

Once that was dry, the drywaller we hired came to check on the demolition stage. lol

Needless to say, he tore out the wall behind the vanity since it was too hard for me to do myself. Hubby can't with his bad shoulder, so our handyman did the rest.

Since the job was already being done, we removed the lower half-wall behind the toilet.

We wanted to make sure that there wasn't any water damage there as well. Needless to say, we found a colony of cement ants living there.

Seriously, they had quite the mess underneath the wood ledge. All we could do was laugh at that point and clean it up the best we could. Now, I had another round of dry lock to do before the drywall could be put up.

And the job continues.....I will keep this "third" unexpected project updated in a few days. How's your week going?
