Oh heck no! Charlie is my niece's cat and she just got a munchkin. I just adore Charlie but he is a lot like my Chej'u and can be very persnickety. I hear you on the rabbit hole, once you get started the more you get disillusioned. I have been down that trail for about 30 years now and nothing is as it seems...EVER!!!!
We have been lied to, manipulated, and coerced into so many directions under the guise of govt protection. BS to everything they put out there. Live your life and be happy that is my best advice as nothing compares to your loved ones and close friends. All else really does not matter in the daily scheme of things. I decided a long time ago that "Life is Good, no matter what it looks like on the outside as my happiness comes from me and me alone. Love and Big Hugs to you and yours.
