Growing Under Lights Indoors
It is still winter here in western New York and my itch to start gardening got the best of me. I decided to start growing Microgreens under some grow lights indoors until I can get into the greenhouse. It has been a lot easier than I thought and to my delight, I really enjoy adding the greens to my salads.
After filling the trays with moistened Coco Coir for the growing medium you sprinkle whatever seeds you want to grow on the surface. They are sown rather thickly to ensure good support as they grow. Plus, you get to have a lot of greens to enjoy.
I started two trays, one with broccoli and the other with a spicy lettuce mix. I have to say it only took about 12 days until I harvested the greens. Below are a couple of pictures of them under the grow lights and some in natural lighting.
The microgreens are almost ready to be harvested. I tasted the spicy lettuce already and its peppery flavor will be perfect as an addition to my meals.
As I continue to grow I will share additional photos and ideas on how to use microgreens. Perhaps you will think of doing some for your own pleasure.
Until next time, this is Sunscape
