Fall has officially arrived here in western, New York. The nights are getting cooler as the days go by and the plants are showing signs of losing their vigor.
I walked around and took some photos of what is still looking fairly good for this time of year.
The zinnia's are still going strong in the butterfly garden and now the goldfinches are eating all the seeds. I have to harvest some of the flowers before I don't get any seed for next year.
I do love seeing nature enjoying the gardens that I plant for them.
The petunias and verbena are almost done now and I saved some seeds from each of them. These photos were from earlier this summer.
The orange border zinnias are fabulous and I will be growing more next year for sure. The scarlet coleus was a very slow starter but finally managed to look nice on the porch. I wonder if the seed will come true for next year. I would like to have them around the base of the porch for something different other than impatiens.
These are three different morning glory vines that are on my trellises. The blue picotee just started blooming this week. I guess better late than never. ;-)
The begonia's I ordered this year did amazing in the hanging baskets. The orange begonia was supposed to be a dark red but the orange was still pretty. The white, however was my favorite.
The hanging baskets are coming to an end and I may try cutting back the fushia and see if I can winter it over to have for next year. The hummingbirds loved it, and I am so glad I had purchased it for them.
I did harvest all of the tower gardens and put them all into the greenhouse for the winter. I will be able to start them in there once I start seeds again in March.
The last of the hydrangeas have bloomed and the white is now turning pink with the changing weather.
One thing for sure is that all the succulents loved the heat this summer. They multiplied so much that there will be plenty to share in the spring.
I thought you would enjoy seeing some of the bees gathering pollen from the plants. These past two weeks every type of bee has been loving the chives that are in flower. The large bumblebee put his leg up when I got too close with the camera. I just love them so.
