Everything that I cut back and clean up from all my gardens goes into a large compost pile. We have it out of the way at the edge of the woods. When I was busy cutting back the last of the Hosta plants around my porch, look who I spotted.
There are two deer in this photo standing around the pile. Now that I was walking towards them to take some photos they were on alert. I had to move slowly so they would not run away.
The two of them were busily eating the vegetation that I had thrown on top of the pile. This was the first time I had ever seen them doing so. Of course, I am sure that they have before, but, this time I captured them with my camera.
Can you see the green tomato in the deer's mouth? As I stood there watching them, and them watching me, they ate quite a few of them.
It was fun to see these two young ones eating the produce I toss there. These two are the twin fawns that I have shown photos of in past posts. They no longer have their spots of course and have certainly grown up a lot over the summer months.
I realize the photos are a bit fuzzy as I could not get any closer to them without spooking them. So, I do apologize for not getting them any clearer than I did.
As you can see, I am slowly moving closer to them and they are starting to get a bit nervous.
Could she be any cuter with her mouth open like it is? If deer could talk, I think she would be telling me that I was close enough now. Sure enough, they both thought so and turned around walking off into the woods. They have made a nice little trail throughout that they travel on a regular basis.
I am hoping to get a lot of photos of them during the winter months. I think that seeing them in a snowy scene would be lovely, don't you?
Until next time, this is Sunscape
