I know right. Back when I was going down by Detroit for electrology school I would stay in motels/hotels sometimes the whole week before traveling back home. There's some major highways down that way and they make noise 24/7. I noticed this one motel that sat behind a brick wall and decided to give it a try it might be more quiet. I got in the room and looked like something out of the 1970's with old shag carpet, old fashion wall paper but when I laid down in the bed looking up at the ceiling there was a mirror on the ceiling. Never seen anything quite like that before. I got woke up in the middle of the night by people in the room next to mine having sex, screaming and their bed knocking against the wall. lol. Last time I stayed there. People at the school said I'd need to go into one of the smaller suburbs to find a decent hotel/motel. So I did. The first one I came across the one I just described in looks had this hotel beat all to hell. The air condition/heater lid was missing, there wasn't even any fiber let alone shag left to the carpet and the lampshades were so old and dirty they looked like they could disintegrate into thin air. There was also mold all over the bathroom. This was a motel six, back than they still had a reasonable reputation. I sat right in that motel and called the corporate motel six chain so I could describe to them everything I was seeing so I wouldn't leave anything out. About a couple weeks later I got a letter in the mail apologizing for the condition of the place. They had sent someone there to inspect it from corporate headquarters and said I definitely was spot on in my statement about the place. They sent me a two week stay at a new motel six in a nearby city for free. That place was really nice. I ended up staying there for about a month before I came across what they call an efficiency room rental at a hotel near by. It came with a stove and refrigerator so I could cook food there and didn't have to go out to eat all the time. They would reserve the room for me also for whatever amount of days I would be returning the next week. I never really cared for the Super 8 motels though that I had tried down there. They were nice but you always had to access your door from inside going down a hallway. Which is what sounds like yours was. I just liked the convenience of my car being parked right outside the door and not having to lug stuff back and forth.
