My mom used to call them a willow switch. Branches she'd break off from the neighbors willow tree across the alley from our backyard. I was going to post up a news article on another site tonight, (this morning, lol) about a school that had to go to online learning due to massive brawls at the school. The school sent home a letter explaining that they'd open back up after bringing in the kids and parents to work out a plan for a safe environment for the young scholars at school. My comment though would have been calling these kids scholars is equivalent to putting make up on a pig. I decided not to go there, didn't want to offend anybody but it behooves me that even here last year when a kid brought a gun to school the letter went out to parents that a young scholar had brought a gun to school. Excuse me but this may work better if you first describe what a scholar is, someone who shows academic discipline. Personally I think it diminishes the word scholar in some cases.
