I posted that story of the girls throwing the soap at the painting earlier today while highlighting a statement they made that Europeans can't even afford to heat up a can of soup. This is how helpless the younger indoctorinated generation is that they can't even figure out that a small pile of twigs will heat a can of soup adequately. When I was a kid my dad took us fishing all the time. It wasn't uncommon to open a can of something with a knife if they forgot to bring the can opener and sit it on top or in between hot kindling. We always, as there was six of us, have to go gather up wood, I don't remember much use of charcoal as a child. One reason I take my grandkids fishing two, three times a summer. I always tell them stories of as a child having to go dig for worms, or in the evening go night crawler hunting. As much as they grimace their faces, and admittingly as an adult now also I'd like to, when showing them how you take the worm and slide it right down upon the hook right through it's body until the body is slide the entire length of the hook. But these are basic survival techniques that you never know if one day you would need to know. I also go on to tell them we didn't get the cute cartoon fishing poles grandma bought them, we were lucky we got a cane pole with fishing string attached, sometimes we even used a stick to attach string to. The last time we went fishing three, four weeks ago my granddaughter bagged the stuff at the grocery store and we inadvertently left the hooks and barbers at the store. I went back to see if anybody turned them in and when I said did anyone turn in any barbers and hooks both the casher and the guy behind the service counter didn't have the slightest idea what I was talking bout. Not that I can remember a whole lot about it we often times were schooled on how to filet a fish, I think I could fair rather well in any attempts at it today, there's enough left in that memory bank to get it accomplish, much more than if I had not been taught any aspects of it at all.
